El Refugio has a big house surrounded by an impressive garden with many species of native plants from the area

The plant nursery

There is a small nursery for plant propagation. Here, the "black anthurium" (Anthurium caramantae) as well as other interesting plants (especially aroids and melastoms) are propagated by seeds, which have been produced at El Refugio. There are some plants for sale at the place, but the nursery is also used to introduce the visitors into the techniques and crafts of plant propagation (for educational purposes).
