Devil spiders (also "arrowhead spiders") at El Refugio

Different individuals of the "devil spider" (Verrucosa undecimvariolata) at El Refugio are shown in the poster above. The pattern on the back of the spiders mimicks the face of a predatory mammal, probably that of a feline. Such a pattern could deter birds from eating the spiders.
